Unicorns and Their Kin is a video-performance that deals with the joy derived from hybrid or even utopic identities. A kin of hybrid beings inhabits a liminal place, in a fringe semi-urban landscape. Each hybrid being performs a kinetic pattern within its environment. These creatures are cruising the utopias of the margins. In a second moment they engage in gestures of canceling their identity. They blur the lines of recognition. Everything becomes colorful and opens up to a game of options and possibilities. José Esteban Muñoz invites us to claim the exit from the limited “here” and the inadequate “now”, to think and feel a “then” and “there”. Distilling the present into a utopian queer future.
