100 years ago, the Greek photographer Nelly began systematically photographing the Acropolis of Athens and its antiquities. The famous Generation of the ‘30s placed at the core of the country’s intellectual life the search for “Greekness”, the identity of the Modern Greeks, which would enhance their self-confidence by drawing on their relationship with the Great Past. On Nelly’s inspiration, the photographs of Greek antiquities were used, above all, to demonstrate the close affinity between ancient statuary and the Modern Greek physiognomy.

Against the demand for the Greek ideal, harmony, racial purity, physical vigor, classical grace and athletic strength, VASKOS tenderly and playfully perform their own vulnerable, gendered and mature bodies.

The performance “Gorgeous Like Ancient Columns” was presented on Saturday 21st of February 2026, in the frame of the DUOS AU_PASSAGE, a contemporary art exhibition and public program curated by Dani Issler, in collaboration with Kerenidis Pepe Collection & Boris Atrux-Tallau, 6 February – 7 March 2026, Paris, France
